It truly is one of my favorite homes in Salt Lake. During the summer, when the landscaping is perfect and the colors are vibrant, I don’t think it has an equal. fd71c2e3 8ec7 4f70 bfe5 d82f9635a0f My favorite homes in Salt Lake City (1)*

The mansion is located on the northeast corner of 200 East and Main Street, right to the east of the LDS Conference Center. It was built in 1901 for Alfred and Elizabeth McCune by the architect S.C. Dallas, and served as their home until 1920 when they moved to California. The mansion was then donated to the LDS church and has been used as a music school, a BYU Salt Lake center, a dance school, and now as a private reception center. I hear that wedding receptions at the mansion are amazing.

The tornado that passed through Salt Lake in 1999 did some damage to one of the mansion’s chimney, at which point Philip McCarthey came in and bought it to restore it. It is fully restored today and it looks great.72c4577e ac1b 43f9 9fcd d2286c65c95 My favorite homes in Salt Lake City (1)*

Take a tour of it now if you’d like, but like I mentioned before, the grounds are even better in the spring, summer and fall. Oh, and I forgot to mention that some people say the home is haunted. If you are into that, you might like this website.

I found THE Parade home for me: The Portofino on Creek Road

Posted: March 18th, 2008 | Author: Nathan Blair | Filed under: Salt Lake Homes, Salt Lake Parade of Homes | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

So I last wrote that I hadn’t found the Salt Lake Parade home that really jumped out at me and said something unique. Well I think I’ve found one that does just about that. On 2375 E. Creek Road in Cottonwood Heights, Bellezza Custom Homes has built a winner. The word is that a local agent and her husband built this home as their dream home only to discover after it was finished that it was a little too much for them. I can see why.Although it’s probably a little extravagant for my tastes as well, it has still been my favorite. I loved the fact that in every bathroom you entered, there was something different to see. The tile work and countertops were different and unique in every bathroom, as were the colors. There was an amazing cascading water wall in the master bath just in front of the shower that I loved. Archways prevailed throughout the home, giving it a Tuscany feel, but not the run of the mill Tuscany that is seen too often. In some parts of the home I felt as if I were back in a royal hacienda, as the space and detail conveyed a regal feel. I loved the small details, whether on the furniture or in the floors. There was something new to see around every corner.

This home is worth a look. I’ve seen almost all of them and I would return here first.
