			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x86/nbbblair/09fb280c-5883-492d-98a7-d49f572d833.jpg" align="left" height="298" width="325" title="Reports say that jobs are down in Utah, yet companies still come*" alt="09fb280c 5883 492d 98a7 d49f572d833 Reports say that jobs are down in Utah, yet companies still come*" />Some Utahns say they knew it was only a matter of time until Utah job growth would start to decline like in the rest of the country.  <a href="http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695262736,00.html" title="Utah job growth slides">The Deseret News showed</a> that it has indeed happened, due mostly to construction industry layoffs.</p>
<p>Yet amid the gloom, companies like <a href="http://www.sephora.com/" title="Sephora cosmetics distributor">Sephora</a> are deciding that Utah is the place for them.  Sephora, a cosmetics distribution company, is bringing a distribution center to Salt Lake&#8217;s west side.  With that center will come 500 available jobs.</p>
<p>This is one of the reason that I think it is unwise to overreact at the reports of sliding Utah employment growth.  Like the article above said, construction jobs have suffered as a result of the slowing housing market &#8211; Utah&#8217;s job economy as a whole is still doing alright.  When home prices fall to more affordable levels, some of those construction jobs will come back.  It&#8217;s not as if that is an indicator that you better worry about your job.  The numbers might not even slide back up this year, but it&#8217;s not panic time.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m just glad that large companies are still finding Utah an attractive location for their business.  Our central geographic location won&#8217;t change anytime soon, and we still have people coming in who need jobs.  I don&#8217;t care so much that these new jobs will be lower paying &#8211; they are still jobs and they will be taken.</p>
