Don’t count out old Sugarhouse just yet*

In the not so distant future, you may be able to buy real estate in the heart of Sugarhouse, Utah, on the top floors of one of two seven story buildings.

The mention of two seven story buildings sitting on the corner of Highland Drive and 2100 South will undoubtedly make many people cringe, but they will soon be reality.

Demolition of the granite block is currently under way. When completed, the above mentioned corner will be home to a new mix of office, commercial and residential space. A few of the corner’s previous tenants will be back, but many have decided not return since it was announced that rents would not stay at the same low rate that they were at before.

I don’t know quite what to make of this new development yet. I’ve only seen artist’s renderings of what it will look like, but from what I can tell, the corner will look just like any other new corner in Salt Lake City. I hope I’m wrong, and the man in charge has said that he will keep the old Sugarhouse feel, but I’ll have to see the finished product to make my final judgment.
